The Dangers of Unfiltered Water

This is no surprise, as water is required for anything on our planet to stay alive. It comes as something of a surprise to realize that water can actually cause harm in your plumbing. Unfiltered water can lead to corrosion in pipes, which can lead to more serious plumbing problems down the line. By investing in a water purification system, your filtered water will be much less damaging to your home.

The main reason for corrosion due to water is the chemical compounds that can be found in water that runs through your home. Higher levels of oxygen in water, for example, tends to be one of the largest culprits. When high levels of oxygen find a way into water, whether through exposure to air or from being run through a pneumatic pressure tank, it begins to wear away at the metals of the pipe. This corrosion is both damaging to the pipes, as well as the quality of your family’s drinking water. Water purification systems can aid in eliminating the metals that are found when pipes start to corrode, and help keep your pipes stronger for longer.

In order to tell if you have a corrosion problem, there are a few steps you can take. Fill a glass with cold water from the tap, without letting the water run before filling the glass. Taste the water, and see if there is any bitterness to the taste. If there is, it is a sign of pipes that are corroding. Stains in your sink can also be a sign of corrosion. If water residue leaves a stain that is blue or green in hue, this might mean that the water is corroding your pipes.
